We have an action-packed whānau-friendly programme planned, with a range of experiences to invigorate the soul and warm the senses. See the waterfront come alive with a range of Matariki activities, including a weaving workshop, DJ, Rongoa Tī, and a special performance by The New Zealand Dance Company: ‘Matariki For Tamariki’.

Matariki For Tamariki:
The New Zealand Dance Company (NZDC) is proud to present ‘Matariki For Tamariki’; a journey through the stars, sea, mountains and moon for the whole whānau. Reflecting the beauty of Aotearoa’s landscapes, including the forests, mountains and oceans, this intimate and inspiring dance experience is brought to you by accomplished New Zealand dancer, choreographer and 2023 NZ Arts Laureate, Sean MacDonald (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Raukawa).

Gather the family for this special dance show that explores the stories of the nine whetū (stars) of Matariki, with each star highlighted and expressed through a unique dance performance. Audiences will be guided through the changing seasons of Aotearoa. The performance incorporates elements of karakia (prayer), waiata (song), and whakapapa (lineage), celebrating themes of renewal and hope.
