Low-Carbon Dining Experience at East

Low-Carbon Dining Experience at East

Discover how low-carbon dining can reduce food-related emissions without compromising flavour.

Join us at East for a Low-Carbon Dining Experience that highlights one of the most effective ways hospitality can reduce its climate impact: choosing plant proteins over high-emissions animal proteins.

This seasonal, plant-forward menu draws inspiration from modern Asian cuisine, celebrating bold, nature-led flavours and seasonal produce. Plant proteins are prioritised because they generate significantly lower carbon emissions than most animal proteins, recognising that how food is produced matters more to emissions than food miles alone.

This is a specially curated set menu at $69 per person, including a glass of wine. The menu will be available during both lunch (12–3pm) and dinner (5–9pm).

Alongside the dining experience, guests will gain insight into how practical choices from protein selection to thoughtful kitchen practices can meaningfully reduce carbon emissions in everyday dining, without sacrificing taste or enjoyment.

Bring along an appetite for great food and a curiosity about how everyday dining choices can support climate action.

Connect with your community and experience how flavour, climate responsibility, and modern hospitality come together at East, transparently and intentionally.

A specially curated EcoFest set menu will be available at East Restaurant for both lunch and dinner throughout the EcoFest month.

Cost: $69

Mahi Raranga Activations

Mahi Raranga Activations

Languages: English, Te Reo Māori

Spend your Saturday morning overlooking the Waitematā Harbour, learning the art of raranga in a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment. These pop-up weaving workshops offer tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau a hands-on introduction to Māori weaving practices during the school holidays, connecting people to te ao Māori, sustainability, and place.

Led by the Te Puāwai Weavers Collective, participants will be guided through a tikanga-led learning journey that begins with whakawhanaungatanga and kōrero on harakeke, whakapapa and whenua. You’ll then learn foundational weaving techniques while creating your own putiputi or harakeke bracelet to take home. All materials are provided and ethically prepared, allowing you to focus on learning, creativity, and connection.

Each workshop centres learning through doing, building confidence rather than perfection, and creates space for shared making, reflection, and meaningful engagement with natural materials. Through this experience, participants gain cultural understanding and confidence, strengthen whānau and community connections, and deepen their relationship to sustainability, kaitiakitanga, and environmental care.

Te Wharekura is a kaupapa Māori learning space in the heart of the city, a place to learn, connect, and reflect, where mahi toi, kōrero tuku iho, and the values of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei are shared with all.

Participants can do 1 or 2 workshops.

Nau mai, haere mai.

Easter Scavenger Hunt at Myers Park

Easter Scavenger Hunt at Myers Park

On behalf of Lifewise, you are invited to come to our Easter Scavenger Hunt at Myers Park on Easter Sunday. This FREE, family‑friendly event aims to bring the community together through exploration, learning, and connection in one of Tāmaki Makaurau’s most historic public spaces.

The event is based at Myers Park Cottage, where people can collect a clue book, complete a scavenger hunt, and return to receive an Easter prize or they can just hang out. Merge Café will be cooking up a sausage sizzle, with tea, coffee, and refreshments available.

📅 Date: Easter Sunday 5th April

📍 Venue: Myers Park – Caretaker’s Cottage

🕒 Time: 10am – 2pm

Get your free ticket here – Tickets are essential. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This initiative honours the original intent behind Arthur Myers’ 1913 gift to the city — a park created to support the wellbeing of families, children, and the wider community. By encouraging whānau and especially our tamariki to engage with the park’s pathways, artworks, and history, we hope to revitalise community connection with this significant urban space.

As this is an inner city location we recommend walking, bike or scooter, or public transport.

  • On Queen St the closest bus stops are: 7061, 7065, 7063 (heading north, towards the waterfront) and 7062 , 7064 (heading south, up the Queen St hill) or

  • On the CityLink bus get off at 1084 or 1080

  • On Pitt St the closest bus stop is 1525‍

If driving you can park:‍ ‍

  • on the road on Greys Ave

  • or in nearby parking buildings including 385 Queen St, Secure Parking in 80 Greys Ave or 441 Queen St

‍We’re also hoping some of these young families will also be interested in Rangatahi Mamas which is held on Thursdays from 10am – 12pm at Myers Park Cottage.

Ancient Wisdom For A New Paradigm

Ancient Wisdom For A New Paradigm

The Living Earth Series invites a shift in how we relate to the world: from seeing the Earth as a resource to recognising it as a living system of which we are a part. When this relationship is weakened, the effects are felt not only in our environment, but in our physical health, mental wellbeing, and the fabric of society itself.

This series offers an experiential pathway for reconnecting with the living essence that underpins life and the world around us. Through wānanga, dialogue, creative practice, and shared experience, participants are invited to rediscover what it means to feel connected — in their bodies, their communities, and the world around them.

Grounded in Indigenous knowledge, each session creates space for insight and deeper awareness, supporting people to live with greater connection and reverence with the natural world.

The wānanga takes place over two evenings: Friday, April 3rd and Saturday April 4th from 6:00 pm until 9:45 pm. Tickets grant you access to the full weekend.

Ticket Info: No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. There are volunteer spaces, concession passes, plus a ‘pay-what-you-want’ option below.

Terrarium Making

The University of Auckland Horticulture Club aims to hold a terrarium making event.

This event encourages participants to build their own closed terrarium.

Often we have glass jars lying around our house waiting to be used. One of the ways the Horticulture Club reuses such jars are by making a self-sustained ecosystem also known as a terrarium.

We encourage attendees to be sustainable and bring their own jars, but we will also provide some which will have been sourced from local op-shops.

The evening will begin with a warm welcome and introduction to the event. Attendees will be guided throughout the evening to build their own unique terrarium to take home. Snacks and drinks will be provided! The University of Auckland Horticulture Club looks forward to Ecofest 2026!
